The Roll of Honor

At the entrance to Memorial Hall is a plaque of black marble on which are inscribed the names of 104 alumni of St. Paul’s School who lost their lives in the Second World War – the Roll of Honor.

In the dedication address at the presentation of Memorial Hall to the School in 1951, the President of the Alumni Association said of them:

“Had we but eyes to see, we could trace their footsteps beneath these trees, along these shaded walks, among these gentle hills. Had we but ears to hear, we could detect the sound of their hurrying footsteps in the long corridors, the catch of their oars across the water, the sound of their skates over the black ice of the pond...They are forever a part of the great brotherhood of St. Paul’s – the thousands who have gone before, the thousands to come. They are a part of ourselves. Thinking of them, we pray God that at long last there will be peace, but if there is not peace, may He grant, to the sons of these men, their devotion and high courage.”

With deep respect, we present on the following eighteen pages the Roll of Honor.
