Henry Augustus Coit, age 26

The Rev. Henry Augustus Coit served as the first Rector of St. Paul’s School from 1856 until his death in 1895. The early history of St. Paul’s School is therefore inextricably bound up with the life of Henry Coit. While no photo exhibit can possibly do justice to either the man or the School he guided for almost forty years, still, by presenting a glimpse of some of the people, places, and events of that era, we hope to give some insight into the ideals to which Henry Coit aspired, which can be summed up in the themes which still guide the School in our Sesquicentennial year:

• Educating Young People for Lives of Signficance
• Exploring Faith and Spirituality
• Living Intentionally as a Fully Residential Community
