The Old School (Dr. Shattuck's summer home)

Built in 1803; enlarged in 1858 and in 1864; burned July 21, 1878 after being struck by lightning. Future site, in turn, of the New Lower School and Ohrstrom Library. The Old Chapel is partially visible at the right.

Once used as an inn or tavern, the building was transferred to St. Paul's School in 1855 and became home to the School's first Rector and students in 1856. All students lived here until 1870, when the Old Upper was opened. Henry Coit lived here until the Rectory was built in 1872.
